California Sunshine

I have not posted pictures in quite awhile as I have been traveling on and off for the past two months.
One of the places I was fortunate enough to visit was California. It was beautiful! I spent a day in Santa Monica, a day in Santa Barbara, a day in the Ojai area, two days in Walnut Creek, and two days in San Francisco. It was wonderful. Definitely a place I need to get back to for sure. Here are a few highlights from the trip. Enjoy!

One-a-Day: Day 81

As I was driving home late last night, I looked at my dashboard and thought it would make a pretty cool picture. Notice I did not photograph and drive. I waited to take the shot until I was safely parked!

One-a-Day: Day 80

This is one of my favorite parts about working on a college campus; the beginning of the school year. It is so great to have the campus feel alive again. Don't get me wrong, I love the summer, but it is nice to have our students back and to get to see all the freshmen walking around that you know you recruited and admitted. Here is the symbol of UNH; gorgeous Thompson Hall. The T-Hall lawn is a favorite place for students to play frisbee or work on homework.

One-a-Day: Day 79

Beautiful beach rose at sunset in York, Maine.

One-a-Day: Day 78

Monday was supposed to be the first day of school at the University of New Hampshire, but due to the power outs from the storm, school was cancelled, which also meant, I did not have to go into work! It ended up being a gorgeous day, and since I was also still without power, I decided what better way to spend it than at the beach, even if it was still too dangerous to go in the water.

One-a-Day: Day 77

Hurricane Irene hit the seacoast of New Hampshire, but we were very lucky. There was little damage, with mostly just power-out issues. I was without power that night as the hurricane moved on. So, I headed over to a friend's house (who had power) for an MTV Video Music Awards Party. We dressed up and even had a red carpet. It was a great way to have fun after a day of wild weather! Here is my friend Meagan strutting her stuff on the red carpet.

One-a-Day: Day 76

York, ME. People out on the beach watching the waves begin to roll in with the start of the hurricane.

One-a-Day: Day 75

I took Friday off of work to enjoy a lovely day at the beach before the hurricane hit. This was sign outside of the surf shop.

One-a-Day: Day 74

Close-up of the back of my sunflower.

Hurricane Delay

Sorry for the delay in posting my photo of the day! I have been taking pictures everyday, but Hurricane Irene knocked out the power to my apartment, so I am just getting them uploaded now!

One-a-Day: Day 73

I recieved a beautiful bouquet of sunflowers delivered to me at work this week. This is the morning sunshine coming through my work window and lighting up the flowers on my desk. Pretty great way to start the day!

One-a-Day: Day 72

Starfruit!

One-a-Day: Day 71

Early morning raindrops

One-a-Day: Day 70

This is actually a close-up of one of my wine glasses.

Little toad I spotted while on a hike on Mount Agamenticus.

One-a-Day: Day 68

Friday night I met up with some close friends for dinner in Perkins Cove, ME. It was such a great place to take pictures in the harbor.

One-a-Day: Day 66

This is known as the "Golden hour" of photography- taken just before sunset while on a picnic near the bay.

One-a-Day: Day 65

As I was going for a walk, I came upon this.

One-a-Day: Day 64

Yesterday, a group of co-workers and I went to Burlington to visit the University of Vermont's campus and talk with folks their about how the recruit and retain multicultural students. It was a great group of people and we had a lot of fun!

One-a-Day: Day 63

Queen Anne's Lace that was all closed up.

One-a-Day: Day 62

This is a bean-bag-toss board (a.k.a. Corn hole board) that a group brought to the beach. I loved the New Hampshire pride and that the bottom of the board says U. N. H.

While on my way to Concord yesterday, I stopped at a wayside to take in this view.

One-a-Day: Day 58

A great way to challenge yourself with your photography is to gain new perspective by taking pictures from ground level. I laid down on the floor of the porch at work during my lunch break to get this shot.

One-a-Day: Day 57

While brushing my teeth last night before bed, I realized I hadn't taken my photo of the day yet! So, I grabbed my camera and took a billion shots of my eye in the mirror. It was hard to do, but I had a lot of fun with it!

One-a-Day: Day 56

My sewing basket used to belong to my great-grandmother. Here is a picture of some of my thread and some of her original thread inside the box.

One-a-Day: Day 55

Loons up at Bretton's Pond in Maine. Not a bad place to spend the weekend. ;)

One-a-Day: Day 54

I had  awesome weekend up at my friend Meagan's cabin in Maine. Here is a picture of her dog, Brewski, jumping off the dock.
